I happen to have a often stressful job.
In order to relieve my stress when needed I keep a bunch of office toys around to play with (Yoda magic 8-ball, matchbox car, stress ball, light-up super ball, etc..). My most recent accusition is a freebie yo-yo I comendeered from one of my office mates.
Now I like a good yo as much as the next guy, but I have always considered them children’s toys. Sure they were once considered kinda cool and people had yo-yo trick competitions but in this modern day these things don’t still go on do they?
This proved me wrong. Apperently (much to my surprise) Yo-yoing is alive and well– In fact it appears to be Kicking ass all over the place.
It’s all very cool I suppose, but ask yourself– What kind of person do you have to be to actually sport one of these.?
Oh My! It seem that Andres Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera is being made into a movie and it’s due out this December.
This has always been one of my favorite musicals, but it’s being directed by Joel Schumacher who hasn’t made a good movie since Falling Down in ’93 so I’m not getting my hopes up too high.
Sorry a few tests to see if I can get this plugin to do public and private posts on LJ.
We’ll see if I did it right– I’m not too hot in PHP (the language it’s coded in).
This one should be NOT posted to LJ
Back in the crossroads again…
So I’ve been having a hard time sleeping since Matt moved out last week. It’s not (despite what you might think) that I particularly miss his company but the place sounds different, its too quiet. Plus the bastard took all the working fans so I got no white noise.
The title of this post is from a song by a group called The Explosion. I heard their song Here I am while watching JBTV tonight and it’s kinda stuck in my head:
Here I am, Here I am, Here I am.
Back at the crossroads again.
Let me stand, Let me stand, Let me stand.
On the top of the mountain again.
Now I imagine that it is careening around the ole’ cranial cavity for a few reasons:
A: It’s catchy as fuck.
B: It’s “good” pop/punk (and yes there is such a thing).
These would be good enough reason I suppose, but the real reason is I kinda identify, at least with the chorus. I’ve been feeling a little crossroads-ish these days. Allow me to ‘splain!
I’ve been attempting to date this girl (who I hope doesn’t read this) and it’s not been going too well. She’s young, a little confused about what she wants, and it’s just making things worse thats she’s been going through some personal shit that has made finding time to spend together hard.
All that aside, I guess what really bothers me is that I really don’t know where I stand. Half the time I can’t get ahold of her on the phone and she doesn’t return my calls– This is usually the sign of “fuck you buddy, this ain’t going to work.” BUT when we do speak, or miraculously manage to find time to hang out everything rocks, we’re digging each other and life is groovy.
Am I making too many demands on the “relationship”? Is she just being distant and flakey?
*sigh*
Who the fuck knows.
So there’s my crossroads. Do I keep on making the un-returned phone calls, or do I call it quits and cut my loses?
You know what? I take back wishing she doesn’t read this. I kinda hope she does. I mean, at least that way she’d know how I feel– I’ve been meaning to tell her myself but, well, we’ve been playing phone tag for a week and a half.
:/
Ahhhhh baseball.
For the first time ever a baseball team has come back from an 0-3 start to force a game seven. Tonight, in the final game of the ALSC, the Sox are going to try to accomplish a feat never before completed in professional sports- winning a seven game series after losing the first three games.
That’s not in ANY sport folks, not hockey, not baseball, not basketball..
Tonight is the night and I couldn’t be more excited!
*EDIT*
OMG they did it!

GO BOSOX!

I had an idea to write up movies, books and albums that I’ve enjoyed over the last few weeks. I’ll try to keep this up to date, we’ll see how well I can stick to it.
Books:
Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood.
A very interesting view of a pair of guys who break into someone’s house and kill the entire family. I’ve always been amazed by Capote’s writing style and once again he doesn’t let me down– fantastic stuff by a truly great writer.
Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.
The final in a series of books I’ve been reading for the past 5 years. King has been working on them since the 70′s. I have always taken issue with King’s endings but he got it right this time. Not as satisfying as it could have been but still, a good read and a fantastic series overall.
Frank Herbert’s Dune.
A classic. I’ve read it a hundred times and will probably read it a hundred more. It’s a pity the rest of the series aren’t as good as this one is.
Movies:
Martin Scorsese’s After Hours
Who knew Scorsese ever did a comedy starring (among others) Cheech and Chong?! It’s pretty weird, even for an 80′s dark comedy but I dug it. It was recommended to me by my soon-to-be-ex-neighbor Jim, who hasn’t steered me wrong yet.
Music:
Green Day’s American Idiot
I love the Green Day! It’s not cool any more, I know, but I stopped apologizing for my taste in music a long time ago. It’s peppy, poppy , occasionally very long (2 9+ min tracks!), and has all kinds of nifty political and social commentary stuck in between the lines.
So I’m moving again. I really hate moving but the reduced commute time and increased living comfort should be worth it. It really wears me out all of the planning and searching and budgeting– in short it’s all consuming right now.
The new place is a quite little 1-bedroom condo in east lakeview. I hope I’m happy there.
I’m looking into getting a personal cell phone instead of a land line, which is kind of exciting, although it means caryring around 2 cell phones at nearly all times.
So I go to this goth industrial party….
And this is what happens!
